O.K., here's the scenario:

1) Wednesday: started to do full physical format with surface scan. By this morning (Friday), it was still going. Was advised to shut down and try again. Did so and it was done formatting by this afternoon.

2) Upgraded OS to 2.011. Then did a quick format as advised by Roland technician. Was able to restore projects and played back one tune just fine.

3) Had to mess with the refresh rate and horizontal adjustments to get the screen shot to cover the whole screen.

4) Went to routing screen and cleared track bay. Then 1/2 and 3/4 were now linked but were not originally.

5) Then tried to change projects. It asked me if I wanted change drives...huh? I was already on the internal hard drive/IDE. I looked at the current drive listed on the Project page, and it had some gobbledy-gook. It then switched to just listing the drives (no projects listed). I tried to list projects on IDE:0 and it started:

Flashing and flickering "Drive Unformatted!" with a blue circle and X and an "Enter" button. When I hit "Enter," nothing happens.

So, now what do I do--shut it down? What gives? \:\(

Thank you, thank you.

Hey Marty, not sure what is going on here... but we have a single guy in Tech Support tomorrow that may be able to assist you. If you call the main # (800-222-4700) after 11am EST and ask to be transferred to Tech about the issue.... they'll be able to assist you. If not, our full support staff is back in Monday morning as will Roland's factory support.

Based on your description it sounds like it could be a hard drive issue.

If you have a 2480HD, you can easily pull the drive and run MS Scan Disk against it on a PC to check for formatting or physical problems.

If you have the 2480CD, you can still accomplish this testing, but with a lot more work to remove the hard drive*.

*Plus, you'll void the warranty if it's still active.

Thanks for the replies.

Falcon,

I shut the machine down and when I turned it on again, everything was fine. Do you think I should still try and test it, or was it just a hiccup?

Your call.

But, if it happens again, I'd check it out.
