Word up. I'm a 1680 user, gonna become a 2480 user. Is there any difference between the older 2480 and the newer ones with the built-in CD, other than the CD drive and the Hard drive size? I've heard that the hard drive on the 2480CD is difficult to have upgraded, but are there any noise issues? Thanks for any help. And if anyone is selling a unit, I'm lookin'...

Good move! You'll have the bonus of being able to import your VS1680 songs/projects if backed up on CD-R or Zip.

VS2480 HD or CD?

Good question, the only differences I am aware of is the option to remove the Hard Drive, which can be a job with the CD model. If you have other projects on additional Hard Drives the VS2480HD would be better for easy Hard Drive swap, apart from that, it is your choice, it’s really a matter of how you want to work. There will be additional cost with the VS2480HD, i.e. Hard Drive caddy, external CD or DVD burner.

External DVD Burners are apparently on the way for the HD model VS2480.

Apart from the need for an external burner with the VS2480HD, the HD & CD are identical in every respect and to my knowledge; the Operating Systems will be supported equally on HD, CD, and DVD VS2480’s.

Additional info although speculative, this is what Roland may do.

There are no SCSI DVD-Burners that I am aware of, but there are converters to IDE and ATAPI that will work if supported by the VS2480 OS, see the link:
