I just sold my 10 yr old mackie 16 channel board today; my band sort of fell apart and it's way too much to carry to a solo or duo gig. Anyone have any experience with either of these? I hear the Mackie's USB port is noisy, though I don't necessarily need it for that. The A&H is a bit more pricey, around $300 vs around $230 for the Mackie. Unnecessary to spend more? Stupid to buy the cheaper board? Experience/advice appreciated.

I love our ZED 428 but I'm not convinced it is as well made as our Mackie mixers. We have three. I had to send back four shipments because of damage before I accepted our current ZED 428. I've already sent it back once for warranty repair and now I have an issue with a stereo track's rca input. I'm wondering about the quality of the workmanship in these Asian made units. Still, lots of versatility and great sound.

Good luck with you choice.

Thanks Doofie. I had thought the Mackies were road warriors, and never had a problem with mine, but I've seen some reveiws online talking about reliability issues. Guess I'll go take a look and go with gut instinct (and that may be heavily weighted towards the price).

I looked at the Soundcraft EFX8 today, very nice but $120 more than the Mackie I ended up getting. I went for the proFX 12 for $279, vs $399 for the Soundcraft. Probably should have just gotten the Mackie 8 but I was afraid I wouldn't have enough non-stereo lines on occasion and for a few bucks and not much more size or weight it seemed the thing to do. We'll see how it works out.

I have an older A&H board that I absolutely love. A MixWizard 20:4:2.

That said: I still use my old Mackie MS1202 I bought in the mid-90s.
