I'm working with a guy cross country who needs me to email a vs project that he can then mix in pro tools. How do I accomplish this? Do I upload a data cd only? I'm using a vs 2000 if that matters. Thanks in advance.

Assuming that the protools guy needs some type of .wav file per track.....

Your VS project backup will only do him any good if he also has a compatible VS, or a Windows PC with VSWaveExport and/or Reaper installed to rip the tracks to .wav... or maybe a mac with Windows installed on it...

Your VS project will be as big in MB as the number of tracks and length of time as the individual tracks combined would be, by the way. Unless your project is very small, it's unlikely that email will serve you well. You might consider sending them via an online file transfer service like YouSendIt, or the like... many are free, with the caveat of slow upload speeds and ad-ladened download pages... but very doable nontheless.

Thanks Uptildawn, it is a large 24 track vocal project he needs.
I can pare this down however with a little bouncing to say 12-18 tracks. I have used YouSendit before to send .wav stereo 2 tracks before, but forgive me I'm still a little foggy as to how to send these tracks individually for his use.

Oh wait! You're using a VS2000.... does that have .wav export?
Pg 373-4 of the manual describes the process for exporting .wav files. You might try that...... I don't have a VS with .wav export, so I don't have any experience with how well, easily, or quickly it works.

And the cursory examination I just made of the process didn't reveal anything about what, how, if, etc. I imagine it must comile complete .wav files from each selected track that are "consolidated" from zero on the timeline to the end of the song and include all edited phrases/regions, turning them into one continuous track...... much as the way protools would when set to consolidate tracks.... I'm guessing. You'll want to test this out first to get a feel for it.

That may be your fastest route to get the tracks into .wav format for him. You'd still have to send them to him. It might be simpler to send them snailmail 'cause I can't imagine the files being very small.

WOW!!! Thanks UTD , this WILL be the best way to do it. In fact although I haven't done it yet , snail mail will be the way to go mainly because I'm not sure it would be worth buying a rarely used program beyond YouSendit for large file transfer. Will keep you posted.

Track export + YouSendit = Outstanding transfer to protools.
Thanks again Uptildawn for the info.
