gonzo gonzo purveyor of noise Loquacious Planeteer Registered: 08/16/99 Posts: 31454 Loc: SL.UT	hey hano! i think the way it works.... i don't send any cd's to amazon directly, cdbaby handles that. they have plenty in 'their' warehouse.... so my guess is, if you order a physical cd from amazon, they order it from cdbaby, and fulfill the order that way. i don't have any way to track sales from any of the partners OUTSIDE of cdbaby... for example, i have no way to know what has been sold from amazon, or ITunes, or rhapsody, or napster, or a dozen other ways of 'purchasing' my product thru cdbaby. in fact, i probably wont find out if i have any sales at Itunes or amazon until about 6 weeks from now. !!!!!!! kinda sucks, but that's the way their set up, and i just have to go along with it. i think there may be some folks that bought the album via Digital Download, but unless it's done thru cdbaby, i have no way to track it. and i want to send the 'freebie download song' to those folks, for buying the album, but don't know who they are! heheh _________________________ Bats Brew albums: "Elemental" "The Wild Animals" "Trouble" "Stay" "The Time is Magic" Bats Brew music Streaming

LOL no, seriously, i took my time with that part... i spent a lot of time studying pro mixes thru my monitors. and i didn't master this thing, until i had been finished with the mixes for like two weeks! when i came back to them, it was like somebody else's project.... and that's kinda the way i put my head into it, as if it's somebody else's project. i do all tops/tails cleanup in sonar, at mix. i do not do any fade ins/outs in the mastering process. i mix in Sonar, and output at 24 bit and 44.1khz, a single stereo file. i run it thru HAR BAL, to see what's going on that i can't hear on my monitors. i get the gist of any problem areas, and go back to my mix and tweak my master buss EQ using Waves Linear Phase EQ. then i output again, check the first mix against the new one in HarBal, and if i've got it dialed in, then i take the final stereo mix into WAVELAB. There, i remove all DC offset..... i get the RMS and peak information.... and start a chart for all the songs, so i can match levels both RMS and intrinsic. my typical mix, has a RMS value of about -22. that's pretty conservative. peaks are typically no higher than -6. that's a BIG swing in dynamics. i have a grouping of plugins i use in the mastering setup: 1. waves Q10 paragraphic 2. Linear Phase Multiband Compressor 3. Stereo Imaging (i rarely ever use this, but sometimes i do) 4. L2 limiter. i typically use the LPMC more for 'glue' than level'. but this is the most important step. it either improves the overall mix levels, or it ruins the mix. there is no inbetween. LOL i can push the limiter for at least 5 db, usually, without it being completely squashed. that's because i mix at such low RMS levels, and keep my peaks at about -6. then, i'll take that, dither to 16 bit, and output. i'll run it thru the HAR BAL one more time, to make sure i've not got something funny going on in the low end, or high end, or buildups that i didn't catch during the MBC phase... if there is a problem, i note it, and go back to the original file, and start over with the mastering. using my crappy gear, it takes a lot of back and forth, and i could do the job so much faster in the proper environment, with the proper gear, but i use what i have, as best i can. _________________________ Bats Brew albums: "Elemental" "The Wild Animals" "Trouble" "Stay" "The Time is Magic" Bats Brew music Streaming
