Hello there,

My name's Matty, I'm writing from Melbourne, Oz. Funnily enough, I can see another first time poster on a different thread - waywardbreed - is a close friend of mine!

I've always visited the site when I've had time, however I thought it about time to say hello. Been using the 2000 for about three years now. Before that I had an old 890 for about four years. I am unashamedly a fan of my little machine.

Was wondering if anyone had ever had problems deleting Projects from the project list. This has been an issue for me for about two years, but I've just kept moving on and filling up the rest of the drive. None of the projects I'm trying to delete are locked. I've tried a few different things. But after I tick the box of the project I want to delete, press delete, the project erase dialogue opens, it runs through the motions, the blue bar travels happily along, but once complete the project is still there. Weird!

Hope you don't mind me asking your opinions. I'll trawl through some old threads and see if someone hasn't mentioned it before. Either way, a good excuse to finally say hello.

Welcome, Matty. You'll find this to be the greatest resource for our epic machines.

This sounds like a drive formatting issue to me. It's time to back up your(desired) projects and reformat your drive.

If that doesn't work, it may be time to replace that drive.

Others will no doubt chime in-- adding insights. It's a great thing!

Regards,

dk

Hi, Matty... and welcome to the Planet!

I've found it's oftentimes easier to erase projects using the LCD.

Give that a go, and let us know if that helps.

Welcome first time poster,
Usually when a VS gets quirky about performing task it's a fragmented hard drive. Roland suggest you do it often depending on use.

Hi Matty, you need the very latest OS update(Version) on your VS2000 to be able to click and delete projects from the Project list. Not sure, might be "2.05"version.You can check the version you have on your VS2000 by pressing and holding a couple of buttons on start up(I can't remember witch ones),it's in the manuel, maybe someone else knows how. This is not a fragmented Harddrive issue.good luck

Just found it;While Holding down The Harmony Button,Press Track Status 1 Button,Turn on the Power(while touching both your elbows together). The version information screen comes on and shows the current VS2000 version #.

Thanks everyone! Nice to meet y'all…(though I'm an Aussie, my wife is a Texan, so I feel qualified to say "y'all" from time to time!)

Cool, so I span around three times, invoked the moon god and also pressed the right buttons to discover I am running ver. 2.002 - weird though, I thought I used to be able to delete projects, though the years they blur together, so maybe I couldn't…senility coming!

I've always just kinda jumped right into the song process, without getting too "behind the scenes" on the machine. To upgrade my OS I imagine I can download it, burn it, push the CD into the drive type of deal? Or is that crazy talk?

Also forgive my ignorance, but am I able to format one of the partitions separate from the whole physical drive - or is it one in all in type o' deal?

At least the earlier partition is filled with old bunk and experiments, though I have backed everything up, I'm not that fussed about anything from those olden times. Figure I'll try on that one first and see what happens.

Just annoying because I'm currently on holidays in between jobs and in a writing purple patch! But a day of formatting and "admin" is probably a good thing to clear the mind.

Thanks for all your input, I really appreciate it. I'll be sure and not be a stranger / lurker anymore - and I'll let you all know how it goes. And come back just to say g'day. Feels like the right place for me.

Thanks guys.

matty

Hi Water. The manual will tell you how to format, and, clear partitions.

Fellow Aussies always welcome, keep in touch either here or by PM.

cheers, Graeme

PS, my wife is currently in Texas on a work thing; and trying to track down Vintage Guitar magazines for me in the alleged 'rock capital' of Austin....not an easy task she reports. Go figure y'all.

Download Version 2.005 from Roland. The readme has instructions for updating using USB. (Can also be done from CDR but I don't know the exact procedure.) You'll have to first back everything up and format.
The fomatting procedure wipes the whole hard-drive; even though part of the procedure is selecting just one (any) of the 'drives'...yes, confusing.
BTW, you can clear any partition (drive) but that doesn't format it.

Thanks again, everyone. Hope you all had a good weekend!

I have started my last Monday of a wonderful two months off. Seven more days of freedom. So using all your advice I have encountered my first hurdle: Mac OS 10.8.5 not recognising the USB connection of the VS. Therefore can't back up just yet. Is that common or I am being thick? I think my Wife's laptop runs an older operating system, I'll see how that goes when she gets home from work*...

*at the moment, she is working, I am spending mon-fri on the VS. Life is good. Teehee.

The USB function on the VS2 can be a bit touchy.Turn off any Antivirus protection and try again. Also if it still says diconnected on the VS then just unplug and plugin the USB cable a few times, till it says connected. I plug my USB cable into the USB3.0 input on my computer and this seems to work without any issues(thou it's not rated for USB 3.0)
Good luck.

As Bobkat says, the USB connection can be touchy. I believe the problem is the actual physical socket. I eventually settled on one particular cable from my box of old printer cables which always works!
