diesel is the cheapest to make, yet has the highest prices.. because this country and others use this by product of gas.. semis, farm tractors, etc.. they are upping the prices because they can.. over 20 years ago I worked In Houston oil offices as a maintenance person.. because of my position the executives figured I was stupid.. what I heard at times curdled my brain.. yes you are right Dan.. in another of your thread, you question the high price of fuel across the big pond.. theoretically it if for their socialized medicine.. yet some over there are pulling their own teeth because they can't see a dentist.. and the doctor situation , well.. Arthur has had many nightmares with this.. if I recall.
Down in TN. close at hand, I heard where one guy parked his tractors and went back to mules..
I fear their will be rioting in larger cities over food shortages, before the oil people get their heads out of their **s.. and that stands true too for the pitiful crop of those aspiring to govern us

Dan - did you see any of that questioning and testimony?
I had to nearly pick my jaw up off the floor after hearing and seeing these joker's answers to the scathing question - "how can you sit there and let this happen to the American people and ecomonmy?"
It's really, TRULY almost hard to believe. How do these scumbags live with themselves?
The one dude actually said something to the effect of "I'm a regular guy... I know a lot of regular people..." I almost shit myself in anger as I watched that.

Considering 'market economies,' oil execs are very much like the cigarette execs. They have convinced themselves that they are really not causing any harm to the people, or the economy. They are blinded by greed and selfishness. The fact that they are making record windfall profits on the theory of supply and demand will go very badly for them here real soon. There is technology available that enables cars to run on salt water, for crying out loud. This technology was first developed in the '70s, but was surpressed by the oil companies (for obvious reasons.) The oil company execs have paid dearly to keep this technology from being utilized (for the good of the people, mind you.) When this technology finally becomes available, the oil co. exec's pee pees will shrink to unperceptable sizes, as will their wallets.
(I can't wait for this to happen.)

There really should be some regulation on this industry. All of the oil companies are essentially colluding and forming one big ass monopoly. If it were truly a free market with competing companies there is no way gas would cost this much. There's also no way gas at a BP station would cost the same as gas at a Shell station. I think that right there says that this is not a free market. It's time for the governemint to step in and start controlling it.

Like most companies, Big Oil measuers their profits as a precentage, or ratio.
Now, when Oil was $50/barrel, and they took 20% profit, they made $10.
Now, on the same amount of oil, they make almost $30.
But, you see, their profit MARGIN has not increased one bit! It's still 20%! They're innocent, I tell ya! Will ya just leave them alone?

You are all venting your anger toward CEOs who are just doing their jobs by making the biggest profit for the stockholders as they can. These are not non-profit orgs. Stockholders want their stock to go sky high and pressure the corp board to be more and more profitable. A very large segment of these stockholders are average working Joes who are vested in the market through their 401k accounts. How ironic that many of these oil co. stockholders bitch about the price of gas.
They are right about supply and demand. The question is, what is causing the larger demand than the supply?
Come on you know. We have gone over this many times.

If you want to point a finger of blame point at the people driving gas hogs just to go to and from work. Or people pulling huge camping trailers all over the place. Or people who's sports are snowmobiling in the winter and boating in the summer. Or are ripping up the wilderness with 4-wheelers. Or other wasteful burning of gas.
They are a bigger part of the problem than these CEOs. Sure, the demand is high because of the much increased usage of China and others. The west isn't the only ones burning large amounts of gas anymore.

The oil companies will pump salt water from their stations. It will become a federal offense to illegally take ocean water, since you don't own it, won't be able to own it, and the oil companies will become Salt Water Power, Solar Power, and Hyrdrogen power moguls.
We're always going to be paying someone until there is nothing left to pay with.........
Then, one day, our grandkids and great gandkids can make toys for export to China.

yeah Mad....I figure that the salt water will have to come from the bottom of the ocean because it has a better grade of salt....and the only companys that will have the equipment to punp it up will be the oil drilling companys. I estimate by the time it is pumped, strained....and a smell added to it...like propane....that we should be able to get it for about $6...a gallon.

These are not the majority stockholders. How many 401ks went down the tube anyway. BP is the major stockholder in Standard oil. They want to buy the rest. If im not mistaken BP is already our biggest supplier in the U.S. Our monopoly laws are useless. MS being the prime. As far as I can tell the market is being driven by greed or get it while you can. Meanwhile Society's are being manipulated and controlled by these power brokers. Say What! Nike shoes pays about 25 cents an hour in Indonesia. I watched Nikes Ceo say Americans dont want the jobs. Right! Wheres our 100 mpg hybrids. Who do you think controls this technology and manufacturing? Free enterprise my butt!

Maybe people will actually wake up someday and stop using gasoline, rather than complain about it's cost. It's the idiot whiners that are the ones contributing to the consumption of gasoline and profits to the oil companies and government! Maybe they just don't realize that many people in this country have been using grain alcohol and vegetable oil for fuel, for many years now. Not only is it a better fuel but, can be made in your own backyard with little or no modification to most vehicles. Of course, if everyone suddenly made the switch from gasoline to alternative fuels, it would have a major impact on the stock market and economy, and the government would try to step in and tax it's use in some form. But still, the pros would outweigh the cons in the long run. Hmmm, cleaner environment? no more reliance on the middle east? no more oil spills or other ecological ill-effects? Infinite low-cost, non-inflatable fuel supply?

Exxon is our largest oil company. There are 13 oil companies larger than Exxon. We can 1) find more and/or 2) use less. Apparently, finding more isn't an option for the ruling class. It's pretty simple... like Outer Limits..."you are no longer in control..... "

These unrealistic evironmental laws are a big contributer to high prices too. If they would allow 10 more refineries I'll bet the price would come down to be under $2 a gal. in time.
Anyway, this all contributes answers the question why is the demand higher than the supply that the price is so high.
