Ah me. The vinyl.

I have quite a few records. I don't really listen to them, but still. I have quite a few.

And a turntable. It all works, you know.

I used to love studying the covers. I miss that in the small formats.

What do I do with my vinyl records?

Send them to me. I still buy 20 Lp's for every CD, and listen to them.

try listening to it,for me there is no comparison to the relaxation of vynil as compared to cd,mp3. it is a much better and fun experience. I got all mine out a while ago and well I mean how long has it been since you heard Jesud christ superstar or HAIR for that matter,no vynil is king, the rest is just a storage format. KEEP IT USE IT

One thing I like about vinyl records that I like less about CDs is *sides*. I was listening to Abbey Road by the Beatles while I was straightening things up, and at the end of "I Want You/She's So Heavy", with the white noise and the slow fade up in volume and then the sudden termination ... I remember the way the hair on the back of my neck used to stand up when that song concluded. The silence in the room. It seemed like I always kind-of ... looked around. It's a little menacing or creepy.

And you had to go flip the record if you wanted to hear more and dispel that pretty ominous air.

It was like a complete listening experience, 15-20 minutes of music from whoever.

I dislike that about the CD version, it just goes into "Here Comes the Sun". There's no time to digest the apocalyptic vision that was presented previously.

I also dislike the urge to fill the space. People are getting better about that - but I miss records that are whatever, 25-35 minutes long. 65 minutes of almost anyone gets tiring at one throw, I think.

Jammer - I'm trying to prepare in case I get invited to go to DC. It's a bit of a longshot still, but my hope is still alive. We shall see.

Hmmm Two sided CD's that only have 23 to 25 minutes per side... build in some clicks and pops.... \:\)

I like the old 8 tracks, where there was at least one song that would get cut in half only to start a few seconds prior to ending. You'd hear the click of track changing then blam, the song started playing again.

In the case of "Here Comes the Sun" and its ilk, the sequencer/prodoosher might consider sticking some silence in there, eh?

I've done stuff like that before, even using recorded needle-drops and static ...

Ya I still have about 12 feet of it and went through them last night...some are the really old heavy ones that break when you drop them...I let people go through it a few years ago and take what they wanted....drive on turntable is gone....

I also have about 200 cassettes...I don't listen to anymore

I also have about 8 feet of reel to reel..reel to reel is dead...

I guess I need to rent a big trash bin

I miss the cover art the most...don't miss the noise...

WaveLab had a plug in called " Grunge" you could set it to be an old 78rpm, worn stylus, add hum (50/60hz) all kinds of fun stuff. For kicks you could then run it through De-Noiser and De-Clicker :).

I still have all the old LP's, pull them out once in awhile.

I still have a small portion of my formerly large LP collection left in the studio...most of the ones I've kept because they are so obscure that they will never be released on CD.
I have my turntable hooked up through an old tube reciever that uses a pair of 6V6's for outputs.
When we have band practice the guys still love to hear the sound of LP's and the tube receiver really smoothes out the sound of the CD's also.
It's amazing how good 10 watts can sound when it's tubes.

Make sure to keep the gems Tom.

I've got one of those USB Turntables and it makes converting records to MP3 (or CD copy) a breeze.

After I convert, I may donate all my vinyl to the local charity shop or church for a flea market.

I am aiming to downsize by 95% this year.

I've heard that collectors will pay some serious $$$ for vinyl "gems." I've got two big cabinets full. I rarely listen to them, even though I do have a pretty good turntable. But I have an emotional attachment to those records that I have no inclination to break.

40% of my listening is still the LPs.

I've got 2 working turntables and just like the sound (don't like the getting up to flip tho).

keep em! i set my old equipment back up about 8 years ago after not listening to vinyl for some time. the difference to me is striking. to this day, my wife listens only to records at the house. i had things disconnected for about a month over the holidays and she about went crazy and we have most everything duplicated on cd that she listens to. when i a/b highway61 revisited, everyone hears the difference. kinda like all that crackly lead-in. \:D

one side on one turntable --- the other on the other (what an idea)

time to go looking for the Ginsu so I can cut them all in half

seriously --- I just like records --- nothing like pulling "Newks Time" out of the cover and spinning it up

I still have about 2000 LP's at my house. Like Vanillagrits said, some are so obscure they will never come out on CD. Even if every one of them WAS on CD, how could I toss them out? Seems like a big part of my life is in those grooves.

i have a bunch of vinyl too i pulled out some and played a few. my turntable is pooched though the belt is stretched after sitting for years.

i dont miss getting up to change the record i got a five disk cd player that and satelite tv im spoiled now. i never have to leave the couch.

vinyl as a fitness craze could be a marketing tool.

The only vynil records that are worth any money are ones in mint condition(or EXTREMLY rare).the value is in the listening, its just better,I cant put my finger on it but I am emotionaly uninspired by c.d.s but put a record on am Im dancin.
I read that all the track info and extra info that is needed to make a c.d. work is contained in the higher freakwencies that humans cant (aparently)hear. This is what is the difference in the relaxing appeal of records,we dont have this extra unheard noise that we cant hear but can feel(kinda like our inner dog hearing a dog whistle). I just read that stuff ,do you tink its for real.
I for one can notice the difference in how I feel listening to records,I can do it for days but with c,d's Ijust start not liking listening to them after a while(maybee I should get some GOOD music!).

Converting them is a mistake. If you haven't rebought them...keep the turntable. It's not being a packrat--music is your thing.

As far as I'm concerned, analog recordings should be listened to analog.

Now, I don't actually have a turntable...mine died years ago. I just sold all my vinyl. Mistake. I was given one that was in bad shape last year...even in bad shape, there was something very nice, in an appealing way of the LP playback.

This is one thing Tim and I would be on the same side of...that doesn't happen much. \:D
